Steroids?

How, when, and why horses are diagnosed with PSSM and shivers, and treatments people have tried aside from diet.

Steroids?

PostThu Aug 11, 2016 2:06 pm

I was talking casually to a vet at UC Davis and he said the idea of trying steroids on a shivers horse was interesting to him. We didn't discuss dose or length of treatment, but has anyone heard of this or tried it?

I happen to have a 10 day course of dexamethasone at home which the vet prescribed then changed their mind about after I bought it for something else...

I spoke to my vet and my horse is on dex now. Day 4 and last night he bucked me off and ran around like a lunatic until he was sweaty...

Is this just 4 yr old antics or is the dex making him feel like Sylvester Stallone?

And did he relax his left hind into my hand when picking last night, instead of yanking it higher and higher? A little... was it the dex?
